Your main door takes more daily wear and weather exposure than almost any other piece of woodwork in the house, so the timber choice matters more here than anywhere else.
Sagwan (teak) is the premium choice — its natural oils resist water and pests, and it ages into a rich patina with minimal maintenance. It costs more, but for a main entrance that stays looking good for decades, it's usually worth it.
Sheesham offers a strong middle ground — excellent strength and a striking grain, at a lower cost than teak, though it benefits from an annual polish.
Sal (Sakhua) is the heaviest and most structurally strong of the three, though its coarser grain suits a more rustic look than a polished finish.
For most homes, Sheesham balances cost and durability well; if budget allows, Sagwan is the longer-term investment.
